Project overview
In Gaza, and in countries living with poverty and conflict, the war did not stop at the rubble: it reached the right of thousands of children to an education. Many were shut out of their schools and lost years of learning at the stage that decides what the rest can be built on.
Back to School returns those children to somewhere safe to learn, through a programme that puts teaching alongside psychological and social support — a real chance to recover what they knew and carry on with confidence.
The main challenge
The earliest years of school are the foundation of who a child becomes, and a long break at that stage shows up later in reading, writing, arithmetic and the will to keep learning. In countries worn down by war and conflict, thousands of children are still outside education altogether — which makes urgent teaching programmes a way of protecting a right, not a nice addition.
